Howard Industries Announces $100 Million Expansion of Medium Power Transformer Plant in Ellisville, Mississippi

Ellisville, MS –  Howard Industries, a leading U.S. manufacturer of electrical distribution, medium and large power transformers, as well as electrical infrastructure solutions, today announced a major expansion of its Howard Power Solutions Division facility in Ellisville, Jones County, Mississippi. The project represents a total investment of $100 million and is expected to create 100 new jobs in the region.
The project includes a $55 million investment in building expansion and an additional $45 million investment in advanced manufacturing equipment. It will significantly increase the company’s capacity to produce medium and large power transformers for utility, renewable energy, data center and industrial customers across North America.
The expansion will add more than 230,000 square feet of new and upgraded space, including:

  • 130,000 square feet of advanced production area

  • 100,000 square feet dedicated to storage, project work and field services

The project will introduce advanced production technologies designed to enhance manufacturing efficiency and technical capability. New equipment will include:

  • Laser cutting systems

  • Vapor phase ovens

  • Robotics and automated manufacturing systems

  • Expanded electrical testing capabilities, including a new transformer test station measuring approximately 130 feet tall and 240 by 206 feet

Upon completion, the Ellisville facility will be capable of producing medium power transformers up to 250 MVA (ONAN), with primary voltage ratings up to 345 kV and a basic impulse level (BIL) of 1175 kV (lightning impulse withstand rating). These higher ratings will enable the plant to support larger, higher-voltage utility and data center interconnection projects. This represents a significant increase from the plant’s current maximum ratings of 168 MVA, 230 kV primary and 900 kV BIL.
“This investment underscores our commitment to American manufacturing and to the Mississippi and Ellisville communities that have been our home for decades,” said Michael Howard, Chief Executive Officer of Howard Industries. “By expanding capacity and technical capability right here in Mississippi, we are ensuring that Howard Industries remains the partner of choice for the most demanding power infrastructure projects in the country.”
“Howard Industries’ $100 million investment is yet another big win for our state,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “This facility will help power the next generation of growth in Mississippi and America, while playing a massive role in advancing the economy of tomorrow. Thank you to Howard Industries for continuing to invest in Mississippi.”

Cyndi McCoy, President of Howard Industries, added, “This expansion strengthens our ability to support the growing demand for reliable electrical infrastructure while creating high-quality career opportunities in Jones County. These new jobs—from engineers and technicians to skilled production and support roles—will help continue the region’s long tradition of excellence in power equipment manufacturing.”
Construction is currently underway, with expanded capabilities expected to come online progressively through the fourth quarter of 2026.
